In a bid to ensure and optimize regulatory compliance with policies addressing environmental safeguards, Chief Regulator Joel Yu of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) on Tuesday, 20 October 2014, visited the septic tank desludging activities of its water concessionaire in Quezon City.

Yu, accompanied by officials of Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) led by Chief Operating Officer Herbert Consunji and Wastewater Management Head Tony Garcia, examined Maynilad’s sanitation scheme through scheduled septic tank desludging activities held at Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

He underlined that customary septic tank desludging will contribute greatly to keep homes clean, limit the spread of diseases and protect the community as well as the environment against harmful waste that can lead to serious health risks and other negative effects.

Also present during the desludging were MWSS-RO Deputy Administrator (DA) for Technical Regulation Area, Engr. Gerardo Sullano, DA for Customer Service Regulation Area (CSRA) Atty. Vincent Pepito Yambao, Atty. Kristin San Pedro, Head Technical Assistant, Engr. Rosendo Alegre, Manager for Customer Service Complaints Monitoring Department, Engineers Victor Cariaga and Vincent Ruelos of CSRA.

West Zone Concessionaire Maynilad is offering free septic tank cleaning service to its household clients of Las Pinas, Malabon, Navotas, Quezon City and Valenzuela City. While East Zone Concessionaire Manila Water Company, Inc. is conducting desludging service to its domestic customers in Pasig, San Juan, Quezon City, Marikina, Taguig, Pateros and Rizal province.

The concerned customers are urged to take advantage of the offer to prevent the clogging of the plumbing systems and minimize the discharge of pollutants into the environment.
