The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) on Friday, 10 October 2014 witnessed the turn-over ceremony of La Mesa Dam Water Level Indicator and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Manila Water Company, Inc. (Manila Water) and Fairview Elementary School in Quezon City for the establishment of early warning system on the spillover of La Mesa Dam.
MWSS-RO Deputy Administrator for Customer Service Regulation (CSR) Area Atty. Vincent Pepito Yambao, Jr. said the MOA signing aims to foster stronger partnership with the community on disaster risk reduction and management.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Mark Orbos of Manila Water Regulatory Affairs, Fairview Elementary School Principal Eugenia Cristobal. Joining them were Atty. Yambao, MWSS-RO Deputy Administrator for Technical Regulation Area Gerardo Sullano, Charlie Espallardo of MWSS-RO CSR, Barangay Kagawads Joel Erastain, Ariel Alfonso and Winnie Dumandan of Barangay Greater Fairview, and Joel De Jesus, Manila Water Manager for Special Concerns Corporate Strategy and Development Group.
The Manila Water installed the Water Level Indicator at the Fairview Elementary to monitor the spilling level condition of La Mesa Dam so the residents of Barangay Greater Fairview and nearby communities will be warned ahead of the floods.
According to Yambao, the MWSS-RO saw an urgent need to build an early warning system and a real-time monitoring and communication system in the area.
The La Mesa Dam Water Level Indicator plays a key role in the system that can anticipate spillover of La Mesa Dam, forecast floods events and warn the people in the hazard zone.
