Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs) led by their respective Chairpersons and Chief Executive Officers attended the 2016 GOCC Day at the Rizal Hall, Malacañan Palace on 23 May 2016.

With the theme “Building the Nation through Good Corporate Governance,” the Metropolitan and Waterworks Sewerage System (MWSS) was one of the 54 GOCCs that handed over their checks to President Benigno S. Aquino III in the annual ceremonial turnover of GOCCs’ dividends and recognition of GOCCs’ achievements and their significant contributions to the country’s national development.

In his speech, President Benigno S. Aquino III expressed his gratitude to all the GOCCs who made their valuable contribution.

President Aquino said that for the past six years of his Administration, the GOCCs have remitted dividends amounting to P164.33 billion. It was almost twice the sum remitted by the previous Administration’s P84.18 billion from 2001 to 2010. He also stressed that his predecessor was in power for nine and a half years.

Since 2012, the Governance Commission has continued the tradition of the annual ceremonial turnover of GOCCs’ dividends and recognition of other GOCCs that made significant contributions to national development.
