Last week, MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty shared his knowledge and insights on the effective regulation of water and sewerage services in various conference sessions at the Global Water Summit (GWS) 2023 held in Berlin, Germany. The high-level knowledge-sharing platform was attended by more than 200 leaders representing utilities, industry, finance, investment, and key water market players from around the world.

At the Sustainable Development Goal 6 Utility Accelerator Workshop held on 08 May 2023, Chief Regulator Ty presented “Expanding Water and Wastewater Coverage in Metro Manila,” sharing MWSS RO’s efforts in fast-tracking CapEx projects, pushing for technological innovations, and advocating participatory governance in the water sector. He also joined the panel in the session, which was attended by distinguished water utility leaders and development finance and technical assistance professionals.

On 10 May, Chief Regulator Ty served as a panelist in another GWS session centered on “The Future of SDG6 Finance.” Alongside other global experts, he discussed strategies for delivering water and wastewater infrastructure to marginalized sectors. The session was attended by water utility heads and representatives from international development finance institutions (DFIs) such as the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and African Development Bank, among others.

During the summit’s Global Water Awards, the MWSS RO was recognized as the “Public Water Agency of the Year 2023” – a historic win for the Philippine government. Chief Regulator Ty received the award on behalf of the Office.
