The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) is one with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in its mission to rehabilitate Manila Bay.
The MWSS RO joined the launching of the “Battle for Manila Bay” last January 27, 2019, along with employees from other government agencies, volunteers, private citizens and government leaders numbering in the thousands.
This is in accordance with the MWSS RO’s mandate to protect the interests of the consuming public and other stakeholders to continuous and sustainable supply of potable water and environmentally sound sewerage system.
The launch began with a Solidarity Walk from the Quirino Grandstand to the baywalk area in front of Rajah Sulayman Park. Simultaneous clean-up activities followed shortly after. Subsequently, the DENR, led by Secretary Roy Cimatu, also announced an initial list of establishments found to be polluting Manila Bay and thereby violating the Clean Water Act.
Prior to this event, the MWSS RO has already directed both its concessionaires, Manila Water and Maynilad Water Services, to not only build more sewage treatment plants, but also increase its connectivity to ensure effectiveness.
The MWSS RO is grateful for the commitment of the DENR to assist in securing permits, solving right-of-way problems and in urging homeowners to connect to sewerage pipes, to help fast-track the ongoing process of increasing sewerage and sanitation coverage in its concession area.
