The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) switched on its activities in connection with the nationwide celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) for 2014.

According to Chief Regulator Joel Yu, among the activities lined up for the month were community briefings on water quality and sanitation,

water quality testing and septic tank desludging activities, and public dialogues on metering and billing.

The MWSS-RO Customer Service Regulation Area led by Deputy Administrator Atty. Vincent Pepito Yambao, Jr. wielded efforts in undertaking programs and activities relative to the observance of this celebration to help consumers become more aware of their basic rights and responsibilities, and effectively promote the welfare of the Filipino consumer.

Presidential Proclamation No. 1098 issued on 26 September 1997 declared the month of October of every year as the Consumer Welfare Month. Republic Act 7394, otherwise known as the “Consumer Act of the Philippines” seeks to improve the management, coordination and effectiveness of the nation’s consumer programs, further strengthened the protection and promotion of consumer rights and welfare.

The Department of Energy is hosting this year’s celebration themed “Sapat na Impormasyon: Susi sa Wastong Paggamit ng Enerhiya.”
