President Benigno S. Aquino III led the laying of the time capsule for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project (BBWSP) at the NHA Property at Pleasant Hills Subdivision, Barangay San Manuel, San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan on 15 April 2016.
With him were Ambassador of South Korea Jae-Shin Kim, Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson, Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, Private Public Partnership Center of the Philippines Executive Director Atty. Andre Palacios, Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, San Jose del Monte Mayor Reynaldo San Pedro, San Miguel Holdings Corp. Engineer Edgar Doña, Korea Water President Gye-woon Choi, Metropolitan and Waterworks Sewerage System (MWSS) Administrator Gerardo A.I. Esquivel and Local Water Utilities Administration Administrator Andres Ibarra.
The project, with MWSS as the implementing agency, will provide treated bulk water to 24 municipalities with more than 500,000 households of Bulacan to meet the growing water demand.
Luzon Clean Water Development Corporation, the SMC-K Water consortium that won the bid for the BBWSP, will undertake the financing, detailed design, construction, operation, and maintenance of conveyance pipelines, water treatment facilities and water source over a 30-year cooperation period. Construction date is scheduled in September 2016.
