The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO)’s STP of the Week is the Baesa Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). This STP in Barangay Baesa, Quezon City is being operated by Maynilad Water Services, Inc.
The Baesa STP uses a cost-efficient wastewater treatment technology to help reduce water pollutants in San Juan River, which is connected to Pasig River and Manila Bay.
Wastewater from households and other establishments are collected and treated by STPs to remove contaminants before it is released back into the environment. The treatment involves processes that change the physical, chemical or biological, and radiological composition of wastewater to reduce or prevent pollution.
The MWSS RO monitors the compliance of these STPs with the local and national standards on wastewater treatment to protect the health and safety of the public and the environment, especially our water resources.
