✔️ STP of the Week

The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO)’s STP of the Week is the Karangalan 2 Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). It is one of the nine (9) STPs based in Karangalan Village, Cainta, Rizal operated by Manila Water.

The Karangalan 2 STP is part of the Community Sanitation Project of the World Bank-assisted Manila Second Sewerage Project. This Project was initiated to improve and rehabilitate the existing sewerage system in Karangalan Village, and reduce water pollution in Pasig River.

Wastewater from households and other establishments are collected and treated by STPs to remove contaminants before it is released back into the environment. The treatment involves processes that change the physical, chemical or biological, and radiological composition of wastewater to reduce or prevent pollution.

The MWSS RO monitors the compliance of these STPs with the local and national standards on wastewater treatment to protect the health and safety of the public and the environment, especially our water resources.
