Maynilad to repair pipe leak along Gen. San Miguel Ave. in Sangandaan, Caloocan City, on Oct. 6; motorists advised to expect heavy traffic

Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) will implement leak repair works on a 750-mm diameter primary line along San Miguel Avenue in Sangandaan, Caloocan City, from 12 midnight until 4 p.m. of October 6, 2018 (Saturday).

During this period, two north-bound lanes along Gen. San Miguel Ave. near corner A.P. Aquino Street (from La Favorita Bakery to Da Best Mart) will be closed to traffic.

To help ease traffic flow, one lane on the south-bound side will be made available for counter-flow traffic, to accommodate vehicles going north toward Letre Road. Motorists are also encouraged to take alternate routes.

Maynilad is closely coordinating with the local government of Caloocan City to manage traffic flow along the project area.

To help ensure public safety, work sites will be fully enclosed by board-up barricades, with appropriate lighting and traffic/warning signs. Motorists and pedestrians passing through the area are also reminded to strictly observe traffic rules and road safety regulations.

As a result of these leak repair works, some Maynilad customers in Caloocan and Malabon will experience temporary water supply interruption from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 6, 2018. Below are the barangays that will be affected by the service interruption:

  • Barangays 1-14 and 80 in Sangandaan, Caloocan City
  • Barangays Tonsuya and Longos, Malabon City

Maynilad is advising affected customers to store enough water for the duration of the water service interruption. The company will also be deploying two mobile water tankers to deliver potable water to customers.

The repair works involve replacing a segment of the primary line that developed major leaks owing to numerous tapping points for illegal connections.

Maynilad lifts rotational service interruptions today, September 18, 2018

As of 6 a.m. today, Sept. 18, turbidity (or concentration of sediments) in the raw water from Ipo Dam has decreased to manageable levels. This enabled us to increase the water production of our La Mesa Treatment Plants and store water in our reservoirs to supply the water requirement of our customers.

Given this development, Maynilad is lifting the implementation of the rotational water availability schedules today.

We will continue to monitor spikes in turbidity of the raw water from Ipo Dam. Given that erratic weather patterns can bring strong rainfall over the Ipo watershed and can cause the turbidity to increase again, we advise our customers to keep some stored water to ensure that they have stock for their daily needs should circumstances constrain us to again reduce production owing to increased turbidity.

Maynilad is temporarily shutting down its Putatan Water Treatment Plant (“PWTP”) in Muntinlupa City starting June 6, 2018 (the “Service Interruption”).  This shutdown is necessary so that PWTP can be interconnected to the new water treatment facility that Maynilad is currently constructing in the same area. The interconnection of the two facilities is an essential step toward full completion of the new treatment plant that will enable Maynilad to improve water services for its customers in the southern portion of the West Zone concession.

As a result of this activity, some Maynilad customers in parts of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, and Cavite will have low pressure to no water supply starting 11 a.m. of June 6, 2018 (Wednesday) to 5 a.m. of June 8, 2018 (Friday).   To mitigate the impact of the plant shutdown, we have water tankers on standby, ready to deliver water to affected areas upon request.
