On 02 November 2023, MWSS Regulatory Office Deputy Administrator for Administration and Legal Affairs (ALA-DA) and Gender and Development Focal Point System (GFPS) Chairperson Claudine B. Orocio-Isorena, served as one of the speakers in the Knowledge Exchange and Training organized by Asian Development Bank‘s Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD) Gender Equality Division (CCGE).
The event titled, “Advancing a Transformative Agenda for Gender Equality in ADB Transport, Water and Urban Development Sectors,” provided a platform for key officers in the transport, water, and urban development sectors to learn and understand new processes for preparing Gender Assessment and Action Plans (GAAP).
In her presentation, “Integrating Gender Equality in Water and Wastewater Services,” MWSS RO ALA-DA Orocio-Isorena shared the MWSS RO GFPS 2023 initiatives and accomplishments. Notably, the MWSS RO achieved the Philippine Commission on Women‘s GADtimpala Bronze Award for Outstanding Gender-Responsive Agency and GADtimpala Silver for exemplary GFPS or “GADtimpala AlaGAD”.
Atty. Orocio-Isorena also shared insights on how the MWSS RO is linking Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 5 or Gender Equality and SDG 6 or Clean Water and Sanitation. She highlighted current issues about gender inequality in water and wastewater services and how the Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Programs of the MWSS RO and the Concessionaires contribute to the advancement of the “Inclusion Agenda.” She mentioned that the MWSS RO is in the process of collecting sex disaggregated data on water and sanitation services through the 2023 Sex Disaggregated Water Data Project.
The MWSS RO, led by its GFPS, is actively integrating Gender Equality initiatives into water and wastewater services within the Concession Areas.
