From 01 to 05 July 2024, Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty led MWSS Regulatory Office officials and employees in a benchmarking program on water regulation with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN: Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara) in Malaysia.

The program, themed “Strengthening Water Sector Collaboration through Benchmarking and Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing with SPAN,” featured plenary meetings, workshops, and facility visits.

This visit marks the first phase of an International Benchmarking Program on Water Regulation, aimed at enhancing the knowledge and capacity of MWSS RO officials and employees through benchmarking visits to global water regulatory bodies. The program comprehensively explored crucial topics such as tariff setting, sewerage system and sewer/sanitation coverage expansion, and government communication and transparency in the water sector.

A MOA signing is also scheduled during SPAN’s visit to MWSS RO later this year to formalize mutual cooperation between the two government agencies, promoting knowledge exchange and the improvement of water, sewerage, and sanitation services, and to establish a framework for continuous communication and joint initiatives.

The MWSS RO remains committed to constant improvement and knowledge exchange for the benefit of all its stakeholders. Its officials and employees will continuously engage in discussions and activities aligned with the Office’s mission, vision, and mandate, aimed at achieving world-class and effective regulation of water and wastewater services in the Concession Areas.
