On 27 June 2025, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) hosted Architecture students from the Far Eastern University (FEU) – Manila for a site visit to the East Avenue Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) managed by Manila Water in Quezon City.

During the visit, resource persons from the STP provided an overview of the treatment processes for domestic wastewater, highlighting technologies such as the Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) process. The students were toured around the facility and shown various STP-related infrastructure to gain a deeper understanding of the plant’s components.

The group also had the opportunity to engage in a discussion session with MWSS RO Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty. He explained the Office’s regulatory role in sewerage and sanitation services and highlighted the importance of STPs in effective septage management. Chief Regulator Ty also emphasized the need for these plants to comply with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) effluent standards to safeguard public health and the environment.

The MWSS RO remains committed to supporting academic research and welcomes students interested in learning more about the Office’s mandate and advocacies.
