The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) kicked off its Campus Awareness Drive (CAD) on Water, Sewerage, and Sanitation on 20 November 2019 at the School of the Holy Spirit of Quezon City (SHSQC).

The MWSS RO CAD aimed to educate the academic community on the roles of MWSS RO and the consumers in water quality and wastewater management, sanitation, and water conservation to ensure clean, continuous, and sustainable water supply for the consuming public. The first leg of the project was held in cooperation with water concessionaire Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI), and in partnership with the Junior and Senior High School Departments of SHSQC.

MWSS RO Chief Regulator Atty. Patrick Lester N. Ty, along with Deputy Administrator for Administration and Legal Affairs (ALA) Atty. Claudine Orocio-Isorena and Deputy Administrator for Technical Regulation Area (TRA) Ms. Evelyn B. Agustin, graced the event and gave a discussion on the key functions of MWSS RO in making water and sewerage services available, accessible, and affordable for consumers.

MWCI Used Water Compliance and IEC Manager Mr. John Von Dela Cruz led the talk on wastewater management and sanitation; MWSS RO Principal Chemist Mr. Dave Eldon Olano gave a lecture on water quality; and MWSS RO Water Utilities Regulation Officer Mr. Noel Adrian Bolima explained the importance of water conservation. After actively participating in a series of interactive discussions, SHSQC students, faculty, and staff raised their questions and concerns about the topics presented during an open forum.

SHSQC also conducted a photo-essay contest with the theme “Freshwater Conservation: Leaving No One Behind” in connection with the event. Chief Regulator  Ty awarded tokens and certificates of recognition to the winning group, which consisted of five students from Grade 7. Aside from the winners, tokens and certificates of appreciation were given to students and faculty members who contributed to make the event a success. The event concluded with one representative from Grades 7 to 12 sharing their insights and reflections on the program.

A photo booth was opened after the program to celebrate the participation of the SHSQC community in the event.

The MWSS RO invites other high schools, colleges, and universities within the concession area to become its partners in the succeeding legs of CAD. Interested academic institutions may contact the MWSS RO Public Information Department through pid@ro.mwss.gov.ph.
