On 24 April 2024, MWSS Regulatory Office Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty conducted a workshop for Enderun Colleges’ Titan Week presenting, “Towards a World-class and Innovative Regulation of Water Services in the Metropolis.”

Atty. Ty holds the distinction of being the youngest person appointed as the Chief Regulator of the MWSS RO in its 26-year history. Notably, he led the Office to be recognized as the “Public Water Agency of the Year” at the 2023 Global Water Awards.

During the workshop, Atty. Ty discussed various topics related to the effective regulation of water and sewerage services, including the mandate of the MWSS RO, the evolution from pre-privatization to the current state of the East and West Concession Areas, the Office’s Regulatory Framework, development of new water sources, water service obligations of the Concessionaires, water supply and demand, MWSS water source projects, preparations for El Niño, and advancements in new technologies such as “New Water” – the “first drinkable reused water” in the Philippines.

Chief Regulator Ty also reminded the students of their vital role in water conservation and provided practical “Tipid-TUBIG Tips” that individuals can easily adopt.

Chief Regulator Ty answered follow-up questions from the attendees during an Open Forum after the event. The session was moderated by class instructor Ms. Mhyles DG Oliva, MAEd who also serves as the Director of Academics and the Head of the Sustainability Management Program at Enderun Colleges.

The MWSS RO has been partnering with academic institutions since 2019 to heighten student awareness about the vision, mission, and advocacies of the Office, particularly in safeguarding our limited water supply.
