From 28-31 January 2025, MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) Deputy Administrator (DA) for Administration and Legal Affairs (ALA-DA) and Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS) Chairperson Claudine B. Orocio-Isorena participated in and shared her expertise at the International Workshop on Water and Gender and the Global Multi-stakeholder Coalition Meeting held in Pisa, Italy.
The series of knowledge-sharing sessions served as a platform to discuss gender equity in the water sector, women leadership and inclusion in water management, and tools for sustainable and inclusive water resource management.
During one of the events—organized by the Department of Earth Sciences and Comitato Unico di Garanzia – Unipi of the Università di Pisa and UNESCO‘s World Water Assessment Program—DA Orocio-Isorena presented key findings from the MWSS RO’s Sex Disaggregated Water Data (SDWD) Project. This publication provides valuable insights to guide planning, budgeting, and policy formulation. Specifically, DA Orocio-Isorena highlighted the unequal burden of water management as a major issue identified from the research and underscored the need for gender-sensitive policies to address these disparities and promote equitable water resource management.
By sharing highlights from the SDWD Project Report, DA Orocio-Isorena emphasized gender disparities in household water duties in the Philippines and promoted programs and policies that advocate for equal access and participation in water-related decision-making.
The International Workshop also tackled core topics such as gender equal funding; policy instruments for inclusion and equality in water; women’s leadership, participation, and decision-making in water; inclusive access, use, and management of water; and gender equality and the data gap.
Participation in this meaningful activity reaffirms the MWSS RO’s commitment to strengthening gender equality in water governance, focusing on global processes, partnerships, and long-term capacity building.
