On 11 December 2024, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) joined an outreach program to support women survivors of sexual exploitation currently residing in a rehabilitation center in Muntinlupa City.
This initiative was part of the MWSS RO’s 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) and was spearheaded by the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) NCR Anti-Child Online Sexual Exploitation Trafficking Task Force (NCRTFAT) and the Manila Harbor Task Force Against Trafficking (MHTFAT). It is part of a broader campaign to combat human trafficking and violence by empowering victims and fostering collective action against these crimes.
In his message of support for the victim-survivors, MWSS RO Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty reassured them that they are not alone, emphasizing that many people and organizations stand ready to support them at any time. He recognized their innate strength, resilience, and ability to overcome barriers and serve as inspirations for change. Chief Regulator Ty also reaffirmed the MWSS RO’s dedication to advancing gender equality and championing women’s rights, especially within the water sector.
As part of this commitment, the MWSS RO, in partnership with Manila Water, Maynilad Water Services, Inc., and the University of the Philippines Upsilon Sigma Phi and Sigma Delta Phi Batch 1999, donated Water Access, Sanitation, and Hygiene (or WASH) kits and a refrigerated drinking fountain to the rehabilitation center.
