Did you know? According to the World Meteorological Organization , about 70% of Earth’s freshwater exists as snow or ice! ❄️

As we celebrate World Water Day 2025, the MWSS Regulatory Office reminds everyone to protect our water resources – including the frozen ones. 💧🤍

This year’s observance carries the international theme: “Glacier Preservation,” and local theme: “Bayanihan Sa Katubigan, Krisis sa Klima Labanan.” We encourage everyone to take part by learning why glacier protection is crucial for our planet.

Here are some alarming facts about melting glaciers, according to the United Nations:

🧊 Glaciers are melting faster than ever. As the planet gets hotter due to climate change, our frozen world is shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable and extreme.

🧊 Glacial retreat poses serious risks. Changing meltwater flows affect billions of people, leading to floods, droughts, landslides, rising sea levels, and ecosystem destruction.

🧊 Glacier preservation is a survival strategy. We must work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and manage meltwater sustainably to protect both people and the planet.
