On 23 to 25 October 2024, representatives from the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) led by Deputy Administrator (DA) for Administration and Legal Affairs (ALA-DA) Claudine B. Orocio-Isorena—who also serves as the Chairperson of the Office’s Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System (GFPS)—participated in the Philippine Water Works Association, Inc. (PWWA) 30th International Conference and Exhibition in Malay, Aklan.

The PWWA is the umbrella organization for various stakeholders in the water sector, including government agencies involved in water and wastewater utilities. Over a thousand attendees join this annual event, with this year’s theme focusing on “Climate Change and Sustainable Environment: Challenges for Water Security and Sanitation.”

ALA-DA Orocio-Isorena also served as a plenary speaker during the event, where she presented highlights from the MWSS RO’s Sex Disaggregated Water Data (SDWD) Project report, covering water use, water safety, water management, water availability, bill payment, desludging, and menstrual hygiene. She emphasized how this initiative provides valuable insights to inform planning, budgeting, and policy formulation aimed at recognizing and empowering women in water management.

In her discussion, ALA-DA Orocio-Isorena also expounded on how the SDWD Project enables the promotion of women’s participation and inclusive decision-making, and helps with the monitoring of progress toward gender equality.
