The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) has pledged to plant 25,000 trees this year, in celebration of its 25th anniversary. This initiative is part of the Office’s work to increase the forest cover of the watersheds that support the water supply within the Concession Areas.

On 01 July 2022, the MWSS RO held its “Tree Planting 2022: 25K Trees for the 25 Years” event to kick off its series of tree planting activities lined up for the year. These activities serve as the Office’s contribution towards 1) achieving goal/s set by the Annual Million Tree Challenge; 2) increasing the forest cover and biodiversity of the La Mesa Watershed, which supplies water to the population of Metro Manila and its surrounding provinces; 3) upholding the Office’s mandate of safeguarding its stakeholders’ access to equitable, clean, and safe water; and, 4) reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 6, which aims to “ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”

The MWSS RO also participated in Manila Water’s “2022 Arbor Day: Punong-Puno ng Pag-asa Tree Planting Event” last 24 June, and took part in the MWSS Corporate Office and the Million Trees Foundation’s “Million Trees Pledge 2022: The Road to 10 Million Trees by 2030” last 29 June.

From 2017 to 2021, the MWSS RO was able to consistently reach its annual tree planting targets and was able to plant more than 100,000 seedlings. Last year, the Office was recognized as one of the 2021 Champion of Trees Awardees by the MWSS Corporate Office.
