On 02 February 2021, House Bill No. 8611 or “The Gray Water Treatment and Reuse Act of 2021” was filed in Congress. The bill aims to protect and sustain our water resources by ensuring that all buildings are properly equipped with treatment facilities or systems that will efficiently maximize the use of gray water.

Gray water is non-infectious wastewater discharged from showers, bathtubs, washing machines, or kitchen sinks, which may be used for various activities not related to human consumption such as watering plants, flushing toilets, or cleaning.

The MWSS RO commends and supports the initiative of Hon. Cyrille “Beng” F. Abueg-Zaldivar, Representative of the 2nd District of Palawan, in filing the said bill that promotes the conservation of our limited water supply. The agency hopes that this bill becomes enacted into law soon.
