PRESS RELEASE
MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) Implements Measures To Ensure That ECQ and MECQ Water Bills Reflect Customers’ Actual Water Consumption
The meter reading and billing operations of Manila Water Company, Inc. (MWCI) and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (MWSI) are set to resume on 01 June 2020. In order to ensure that customers only pay for their actual water consumption during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and Modified ECQ (MECQ) periods, the MWSS RO has directed both concessionaires to:
1. Reflect the actual water consumption and corresponding charges based on meter reading in the Statements of Account (SOAs) of customers;
2. Divide the accumulated consumption by the number of months covered by the ECQ and MECQ; and
3. Verify the consumption patterns of customers, check for irregularities, and automatically withhold any SOA with observed significant deviation from these patterns for further investigation and necessary adjustment.
Moreover, the MWSS RO has instructed the concessionaires to communicate effectively, and in a timely manner, all information concerning the aforementioned directives to customers and concerned stakeholders.
Meanwhile, the MWSS RO encourages the public to contact their service provider and settle their SOAs in staggered amounts prior to the disconnection period (01 August and 01 September 2020 for non-lifeline and lifeline accounts, respectively) in order to avoid accumulation of charges and bill shock, and to ensure continuity of services.
Rest assured that the MWSS RO will remain proactive in operationalizing various measures to protect the welfare and interest of the public.
