On 30 March 2022, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) conducted the “Public Information Drive (PIDr) on the Rebate Program for Affected Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) Customers within the Supply Zone of Putatan Water Treatment Plant (PWTP).”
The said PIDr was held at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Muntinlupa City. City Government of Muntinlupa – OFFICIAL Mayor Jaime R. Fresnedi welcomed the stakeholders who were present during the activity.
In his opening message, MWSS RO Chief Regulator Atty. Patrick Lester N. Ty gave a brief background on the PIDr, which served as a platform for discussing the Php 63,973,362 penalty imposed by the MWSS RO on Maynilad for its unusual and prolonged water service interruptions within the supply zone of its PWTP from December 2021 to February 2022. This amount is by far the largest penalty ever imposed on Maynilad for failing to meet its Service Obligation under the Concession Agreement.
The said penalty will be implemented this month of April in the form of bill rebates to affected customers in the Cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Pasay Bacoor, Imus, and Cavite, and Municipalities of Rosario and Noveleta.
Meanwhile, MWSS RO Deputy Administrator for Technical Regulation Engr. Evelyn B. Agustin provided more information on the nature, scope, and other details of the implementation of the Rebate Program. She also discussed remedial actions and long-term solutions to address the PWTP supply issue.
As the MWSS RO continually strives to promote a gender-responsive approach to water, sewerage, and sanitation management, MWSS RO Deputy Administrator for Administration and Legal Affairs and Gender and Development Committee Chairperson Atty. Claudine B. Orocio-Isorena also discussed gender-related issues in relation to water supply and management, and highlighted the need for gender-responsive water services in bridging the gender gap.
Muntinlupa City Council Majority Floor Leader Atty. Raul R. Corro and MWSS RO Deputy Administrator for Customer Service Regulation Mr. Lee Robert M. Britanico delivered messages to conclude the PIDr.
The MWSS RO is grateful to local chief executives, stakeholders, and media partners for their continued support for and active participation in this activity.
The MWSS RO will continue to conduct information drives to uphold its core values of participatory governance, transparency, and accountability.
