On 19 November 2021, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) conducted a Public Information Drive (PIDr) on the Rebate Program for Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) customers in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City.
In April 2021, Maynilad recorded an increase of 36 million liters per day (MLD) in the customers’ consumption under the service influence of Bagbag Reservoir due to high heat index during the summer season and re-imposition of Modified Enhance Community Quarantine (MECQ) in the National Capital Region (NCR+) Bubble. This resulted in water interruptions in various areas of the West Zone. In response to the increase in demand, Maynilad’s raw water allocation at the Portal was increased from 2,400 MLD to 2,430 MLD from 23 April to 30 June. Despite the increase in allocation, some areas under the service of Bagbag Reservoir still experienced rotational water interruptions. Upon further evaluation by the MWSS RO, it was found out that the Maynilad PMP located along Cuangco corner Avelino in Parañaque (PMP Cuango) with an ID of 29-PQE03AD recorded non-compliance with the 24/7 water supply service obligation for 24 consecutive days from 05 to 29 May.
As a consequence of the said non-compliance, Maynilad was penalized by the MWSS Board of Trustees (BOT) in the form of rebates amounting to PhP 108.93 to all 474 affected account holders in Brgy. BF Homes, Parañaque.
The PIDr conducted by the MWSS RO, in cooperation with Maynilad, provided affected men and women Maynilad account holders in Brgy. BF Homes, Parañaque information on the nature, scope, and other details of the implementation of the Rebate Program. It also became a venue to further explain and clarify the bill rebates; address (gender-related) issues and concerns of affected account holders; and elicit comments and suggestions on improving (gender-responsive) services, especially in relation to water supply management.
The MWSS RO expresses its deepest gratitude to Local Government Unit (LGU) leaders, stakeholders, and media partners who actively participated in the discussions.
The MWSS RO will continue to conduct information drives to uphold its core values of participatory governance, transparency, and accountability.
