On 27 June, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) was recognized as one of the “Champion of Trees” at the 2022 Annual Million Tree Challenge (AMTC) Recognition and Awarding Ceremony. MWSS RO Chief Regulator Atty. Patrick Lester N. Ty received the award on behalf of the agency during the event with the theme, “Enhancing Restoration of Critical Watersheds for Ecosystem-based Climate Adaptation and Water Conservation.”
The AMTC—a watershed rehabilitation project spearheaded by the MWSS Corporate Office (CO) and the Million Trees Foundation (MTFI)—is in line with the Expanded National Greening Program of the Government and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The project aims to plant and nurture 10 Million more trees by 2030 to aid in the continuous rehabilitation of the seven critical watersheds: La Mesa, Ipo, Angat, Umiray, Laguna Lake, Upper Marikina, and Kaliwa.
The 2022 Champion of Trees Award is a testament to MWSS RO’s commitment to the AMTC, and to the goal of protecting critical watersheds that supply water to Metro Manila and adjoining provinces of Rizal, Bulacan, and Cavite.
To celebrate the agency’s 26th anniversary, the MWSS RO has committed to plant 26,000 seedlings this year in support of the project.
