The MWSS Regulatory Office (RO), represented by Chief Regulator Atty. Patrick Lester N. Ty, took part in the Quezon City leg of the “Adopt-an-Estero: San Juan River” Project, held on 21 July 2021 at Bernardo Park, Brgy. Kamuning, Quezon City.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, MWSS Corporate Office Deputy Administrator Ronald Abrigo, Manila Water Chief Operating Officer Engr. Abelardo Basilio, QC-Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department Head Andrea Villaroman, Barangay Kamuning Chairperson Armie Castel, and Barangay Pinagkaisahan Chairperson Graziella Saab also graced the event.
As part of the short-term engineering interventions under the said Project, “Mabuhay Balls” (mixtures filled with microorganisms) will be regularly dropped in the river to eliminate harmful bacteria and improve the odor emanating from this body of water.
This Project will also provide livelihood opportunities to residents of communities who were financially affected by the COVID 19 pandemic.
San Juan River is a vital part of Metro Manila’s river systems and a major tributary of the Pasig River.
The MWSS RO lauds this concerted effort towards raising community awareness and promoting citizen participation in creating cleaner and greener waterways. The agency trusts that stakeholders from both the public and private sectors will continue working together towards nurturing and sustaining a clean and safe environment for the welfare of our future generations.
