On 20 March 2023, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) participated in the World Water Day and Women’s Month Celebrations of East Zone concessionaire, Manila Water.
Representing the MWSS RO, Acting Deputy Administrator (ADA) for Financial Regulation Christopher D. Chuegan delivered a message of support at the ceremonial signing of the “SALIN: Lakbayan para sa mga Guro Program” Memorandum of Agreement between Manila Water and the DepEd Tayo PRIME NCR. The SALIN project formalized Manila Water’s commitment to share its Lakbayan advocacy with teachers in the National Capital Region (NCR) through its Water Trail information, education, and communication (IEC) program on water and wastewater appreciation, which focuses on educators as partners in raising awareness about the importance of water education.
On the same day, Department Manager (DM) for Public Information Joan Michelle S. Antonio served as one of the panel speakers in Manila Water’s National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC). The knowledge-exchange activity was aligned with this year’s NWMC theme: “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” and brought together Gender and Development (GAD) advocates and stakeholders for a discussion on promoting women empowerment and gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity in their respective practices.
During the event, DM Antonio discussed gender-related issues in the water sector, particularly highlighting the challenges faced by women in relation to water and sanitation. She also emphasized the MWSS RO’s commitment to empowering women by providing equal access to quality and affordable water and wastewater services, and involving more women in the design and implementation of gender-responsive water and sanitation programs. The MWSS RO believes that empowering women through proper water and wastewater management unlocks their full potential, enabling them to become active agents of positive change in society.
The MWSS RO commends Manila Water for initiating gender-inclusive advocacy programs that promote citizen empowerment and care for the environment.
