From 13 to 17 February 2023, the MWSS Regulatory Office (RO) — represented by Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty and Technical Regulation Area-Technical Assistant (TRA-TA) Ronald G. Valdez — took part in the Water and WASH Futures 2023 Conference held in Brisbane, Australia.
The event carrying the theme, “Water and WASH Futures 2023: Achieving SDG6 in a Changing Climate,” was hosted by the International Water Centre, in partnership with the World Bank, Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Water, Water for Women Fund, and Asian Development Bank.
Chief Regulator Ty and TRA-TA Valdez joined Water Resource Management (WRM) and Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practitioners and professionals from connected sectors such as health; education; environment and climate change; agriculture and production; economic development governance; gender equity, disability, and social inclusion; and finance from across the world.
On 13 February, Chief Regulator Ty served as one of the speakers in the thematic session titled, “Tackling local water security and scarcity.” His presentation about “Direct Potable Reuse to address Climate Change and Water Security” highlighted “New Water” – the “first drinkable reused water” in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, on 14 February, Chief Regulator Ty — together with World Bank Lead Water and Sanitation Specialist Gustavo Saltiel and Barwon Water Managing Director Tracey Slatter — became a part of a panel discussion that focused on the topic, “How can regulators and service providers work together to respond to climate change?” During the activity, Chief Regulator Ty and his fellow experts examined the opportunities that climate-change supportive regulation can offer from both the sides of the regulator and service providers.
Chief Regulator Ty and TRA-TA Valdez also attended the training session on “Incorporating circular economy and resilience principles in the water sector.”
