The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) joined the national celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month this October. Spearheaded by the National Consumer Affairs Council of the Department of Trade and Industry, the opening ceremony kicked off with the theme, “Consumer Protection in the ASEAN Economic Community” on the first day of October at the Philippine Trade Training Center, Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, corner Pasay Road, Roxas Blvd., Manila.
The MWSS-RO, together with the two water concessionaires, namely Manila Water Company, Inc. for the East Zone and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. for the West Zone also participated in the Consumer Awareness and Trade Fair Exhibits as well as Roundtable Discussions during the opening ceremony. One of the topics discussed in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources was “Addressing Climate Change Issues and Concern: Shifting Towards Sustainable Consumption.
In observance of the major event and to imbibe the importance of advancing and protecting consumer rights and interests, MWSS-RO and the two concessionaires also hung streamers regarding the Consumer Welfare Month within the office premises. Other activities of the MWSS-RO for the month include Community Briefings on De-sludging in Quezon City and Public Information Drives on Implementing Rules and Regulations on customer-related issues as well as water conservation tips especially during the El Niño climate cycle in the coming months.
