The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) fully supports the Manila Bay rehabilitation.

As one of the agencies under the Supreme Court Mandamus ordered to clean and preserve Manila Bay, the MWSS RO has been working double time to ensure full compliance on the said project spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), led by Secretary Roy Cimatu.

This rehabilitation project is also in line with the MWSS RO’s thrust to provide affordable water to the consumers, maintain reliability of water and to expand the sewerage facilities in Metro Manila. In addition, ever since the Supreme Court Mandamus was implemented last December 8, 2008, the MWSS RO has been actively doing its part to help by directing both its concessionaires (Manila Water and Maynilad Water Services) to not only build more sewerage treatment plants, but to also increase its connectivity to ensure effectiveness. Currently, these two concessionaires have already spent Php 33 Billion and Php 23 Billion respectively, or a total of Php 56 Billion in sewerage infrastructure projects excluding operational costs.

At the beginning of 2017, the MWSS RO heightened and strengthened their focus on expanding the sewage facilities in Metro Manila. They also made sure that their concessionaires are on track with all the approved infrastructure projects and are aligned with the agreed construction time frame.

Furthermore, the MWSS RO is grateful with the help and commitment extended by DENR to assist in securing permits, solving right-of-way problems, and in urging homeowners to connect to sewerage lines, to help fast-track the ongoing process of increasing sewerage coverage in its concession area.

The MWSS RO understands that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done and is ready to face the challenges ahead. With the line-up of projects to address this on-going rehabilitation and with cooperation of all the stakeholders, there is no doubt that we will win the battle of Manila Bay.
