women month 09-mar-2015

One with the entire nation in the celebration of National Women’s Month (NWM), the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) took part in the events spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCM) on 8 March 2015 at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

With this year’s theme “Juana, Desisyon Mo ay Mahalaga Sa Kinabukaan ng Bawat Isa, Ikaw Na!”, officials and employees of the MWSS-RO were among the thousands of participants who attended the celebration to pay tribute to the greatness and remarkable role women play in the country.

“We partake in this event not just to ennoble this year’s celebration of Women’s Month, but to pay tribute to the immense role women play as agent of evolution in the country and across the globe,” MWSS-RO Chief Regulator Joel Yu said.

The PCM is spearheading the NWM celebration, in coordination with the National Government Agencies, Civil Society Organizations, Local Government Units, and State universities and Colleges.

The celebration of NWM is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 224 declaring the first week of March each year as Women’s Week, Proclamation No. 227 providing for the observance of the month of March as Women’s Role in History Month, and Republic Act No. 6449 declaring March 8 of every year as National Women’s Day.

This year’s celebration aims to pay tribute to all women leaders who passionately led and continue to advance women’s advocate, highlight their key roles and accomplishments in leadership, power and decision-making in order to influence and break the conservative mindset and belief that politics and leadership are not for women.

The celebration also highlighted the report on the State of the Filipino Women, and the street dance to celebrate the country’s achievement in empowering Juanas and encourage more Juanas to step up, participate and lead in different sectors.

Republic Act No. 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women promotes the full participation and equitable representation of women in all spheres of society particularly in the decision-making and policy-making processes in government and private entities, in order to fully realize their role as agent and beneficiaries of development.
